I'm so excited to announce a new food and wine tour in Southern Italy for Summer 2017. Our signature food, wine and art tour of Cilento takes place in the Spring and Fall, but July is the ideal time of year to visit Irpinia.
When it's scorching hot in Rome and Florence, Irpinia is cool and dry because of the elevation. While vineyards in Tuscany see tour bus after tour bus roll up, we'll sit down with superstar winemakers Luigi Moio, Antonio Caggiano and Salvatore Molettieri. And while the folks on those Tuscany wine tours will be paying top dollar for high season travel in Italy, we'll be dining at a Michelin starred restaurant for a quarter of the price. It's just cooler, quieter and more authentic in Southern Italy,
Irpinia Itinerary Highlights
We will immerse ourselves in the treasure trove of history and culture that most tourists to Italy never get to see. We'll climb to the highest point in Irpinia to see the monastery of Montevergine. During World War II the Shroud of Turin was hidden here so the Nazis would be unable to steal it.
We'll see the ruins at Aeclanum, an archaeological park with ruins from the Samnite era. (That's pre-Roman!)
Visit the ultra-modern vineyard Feudi di San Gregorio and eat at their world famous restaurant Marenná--a meal of a lifetime
Spend the last two days in Naples in a 4-star hotel overlooking the Bay. Danielle who is an expert on the Renaissance in Naples will give you a tour of the historic center. Then we'll have a private tour of nearby Herculaneum which was buried along with Pompeii in 79 A.D..
The tour is strictly limited to 14 people.
